Leaving CC3 off the Startup grid, I installed the update tool and found that CC3 would start every time manually, but I would get an error trying to Scan-To-File.
I searched under Vista 64bit, but I believe the software package is the same for most OS versions, so it may auto-config for compatibility. Then, on Brother's website I located a Control Center update tool released in '08: This update has nothing to do with Windows 7, it was mainly to correct an issue with MS Outlook, of all things. As NCguy hinted, I removed CC3 and a few other programs from Startup incase there was a conflict with the BrCtrCn.exe application and. I had one success, but it didn't work again so that was not my answer. I had a similar problem getting CC3 to open consistently in Windows 7, and I tried the following methods: First, I tried to run as admin, then with WinXP SP2 compatibility. I have the same Brother MFC model and software, although I updated the drivers to the most recent "C" release. I found this thread and thought I'd try to help out NCguy and anyone else with a similar issue. If anyone has had any luck getting this software loaded un W7 proper I'd love to know how you did it.

Obviously running it in virtualXP is just a bridge until someone figures out how to make it run under W7. I did have to make some adjustments to open some ports in the XP Windows firewall so that the software could find the printer but other than that no problems.

Anyhow until Brother gets this resolved, which may be a while knowing those guys, I decided to try and install the XP version of the Brother sofware under Virtual Windows XP. Strangely, I seem to remember it launching just fine under W7 Beta, just not the RC1.
It wont show up in the task bar tray areas or anywhere else where you can see it or get to it. I can install the entire software package which handles scanning etc under every scenerio and it seems to install but when you go to launch the Brother control center 3 software it only shows up in the task manage. I can load just the print driver under W7 RC1. I have a brother MFC9840 CDW mutifunction color laser.
